The Texas State Disbursement Unit (TxSDU) was opened in 2000 to comply with the Federal Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA). Also known as Welfare Reform, PRWORA mandated the creation of State Disbursement Units, designed to improve the collection and tracking of child support monies.
With the opening of a centralized facility in San Antonio, Texas support funds are processed by a single institution in a uniform fashion. Upon delivery to the TxSDU, the vast majority of payments are processed and en route to the Custodial Parents within one business day. For the year of 2006, the TxSDU processed over 16 million payments for Texas families. We are constantly working to improve our processes and technologies, to ensure that support funds are delivered to families in a timely and accurate manner.
